Clay Middleton Announces Candidacy for House District 111

Charleston, SC – Early this month, Rep. Floyd Breeland announced his retirement from the S.C. General Assembly, where he has represented House District 111 for eight consecutive terms. “Because Rep. Floyd Breeland will not seek re-election, I am officially entering the contest for House District 111” stated Clay Middleton.

Middleton thanked Rep. Breeland for his 16 years of legislative service and steadfast commitment to the community and the state of South Carolina.  “Rep. Breeland has laid a strong foundation that I believe we can build on,” Middleton stated. After serious discussions with Rep. Breeland and other community leaders, Middleton is encouraged and confident that he is the candidate best suited to deliver tangible results to District 111 residents.

Middleton is looking forward to an active campaign that focuses on education, housing, and economic development in District 111. “The residents of House District 111 will have an opportunity to vote on June 10th for a front-line leader who will work to fully fund our schools and advocate for better housing and jobs that pay living wages,” pledged Middleton. He strongly believes that with “one vision, one community and one new voice working for our constituency, better days are ahead for District 111 and our state.  We can deliver this brighter future,” says Middleton.

Middleton received a proclamation from the City of Charleston for his outstanding leadership and community service activities. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Rising Star Award from the MOJA Arts Festival. He serves on the board of the Greater Charleston Empowerment Corporation, Charleston Area Community Development Corporation, City of Charleston Homeownership Commission, and Charleston Development Academy Governance Board. Middleton is a member of St. Luke R.E Church, The Citadel Alumni Association, a Master Mason, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and the NAACP.

Middleton is a native Charlestonian of Bayside Manor and he resides in the Rosemont community. He is a graduate of Burke High School and The Citadel. Middleton is the Lowcountry Coordinator for Congressman James E. Clyburn and serves as a Captain in the S.C. Army National Guard.
