The Honorable Henry McMaster
P.O. Box 11549
Columbia, SC 29211
Dear Mr. McMaster:
It is with great concern and disappointment that I write this letter to you today. Last month your office rendered an opinion stating, “I am unaware of any prohibitions to the various committees with whom the statements of intention of candidacy are to be filed receiving such on a Sunday in order to comply with such provision” (7-11-15). Unfortunately, this opinion runs counter to South Carolina’s principles, and fails to consider that, when the “various committees” accept filing, actual people have to be present regardless of their preference to be in church.
Having candidates file for office between 8 a.m. and noon on a Sunday may not be illegal, but it goes against the values of our state, which for a great many of us include Sunday morning worship services. I am disappointed that these values weren’t taken into consideration when you rendered your opinion.
Sincerely,
Carol Fowler |

This Fowler woman is the best thing the Republican Party has going for it.
She is a total whack job.
You obviously don’t know Ms. Fowler. “Whack Job” seems to be a better term for you displaying such wisdom………..
Roger,
Her mastery of the unimportant and “political correct” is unquestioned.
That she is the Republican’s best friend is also unquestioned…as every time she surfaces the Republicans get vote.
If she were interested in actual issues that affect people…well, then that would be a different story. But thankfully, she spews crap like the above, so our inbreed republican power structure is safe.
Riddle me this, why the offense only with the Christian Sabbath and not with filing occuring on the Jewish Sabbath? Is Mrs. Fowler in favor of returning to our old “blue laws” (subtle irony not intended) with dry Sundays, except in private clubs?
Alas, Mr. Dawson, in his great wisdom offered a posterior for a free shot with a barb from the party that supports far too many unholy (to a broad spectrum of religions) planks and causes and there the real irony lies.
