Miller challenges Wilson to sponsor the 21st Century GI Bill
(Beaufort, SC) Today, Democratic Congressional candidate Rob Miller issued a challenge to incumbent Republican Congressman Joe Wilson to co-sponsor the 21st Century GI bill in the House to show a real commitment to our troops.
The 21st Century GI bill was originally sponsored by Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) and is now being co-sponsored by a majority of Senators including members of both parties. The bill would provide and enhance education, housing, and entrepreneur assistance for veterans who serve in the Armed Forces after September 11, 2001. The bill would cover the cost of tuition up to the most expensive in-state public school and provide stipends for books and housing.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Congressman Wilson to show real support for our troops in harm’s way. Having served twice in Iraq, I can personally assure Congressman Wilson that these men and women put their lives on the line every day for this country. Helping them pay for their education is the least we can do,” Miller said.
“Through my service in the Marines, I was able to earn both an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree. I believe that every veteran who has served this country in the post 9-11 world deserves the same opportunities. I strongly encourage Congressman Wilson to sponsor this bill and ensure it covers all post 9-11 veterans,” Miller added.
Rob Miller is running for Congress to bring South Carolina the change it needs, and to cut through partisan bickering in Washington, DC and get results. He has made creating and retaining quality jobs in our part of South Carolina the central issue of his campaign. Because his campaign is garnering strong support from across party lines, Rob was able to announce recently that he has over $200,000 on hand – putting him neck-in-neck with Wilson, and leaving him in a strong position to communicate his message of change.
Miller is a South Carolina native, who left the US Marine Corps as a Captain in February after 13 years of serve to run for Congress. He and his wife Shane run a small business in Beaufort, where they raise their young son.
