Pence will address South Carolina Republican Party activists
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today announced Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) as the featured speaker at the 41st Annual Silver Elephant Dinner. Silver Elephant, the party’s largest fundraising dinner of the year, will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
“We are extremely excited to extend a warm South Carolina welcome to Congressman Mike Pence,” said Dawson. “Congressman Pence is one of the leading conservative voices in the Republican Party, and we are truly honored to have him at this year’s Silver Elephant Dinner.”
A Columbus, Indiana, native, Congressman Pence was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2000 to represent Indiana’s sixth congressional district. Congressman Pence has emerged as a national spokesman for conservative principles. During the 109th Congress, Congressman Pence served as Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee. The Republican Study Committee is the largest caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives and under Congressman Pence’s leadership was the leading voice for advancing conservative social and economic issues in Congress.
“South Carolina’s Republican Party is one of the most successful in the country because its leaders and supporters have held dear to our conservative ideals,” said Congressman Pence. “It’s truly an honor to join them at this year’s Silver Elephant Dinner.”
Silver Elephant kicks off a historic weekend of South Carolina Republican events. The 2008 South Carolina Republican Party State Convention will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center where delegates and alternates to the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, will be elected.
Past Silver Elephant Dinner speakers include President Ronald Reagan, President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain.
