Councilman McEachern … NCLB is a Federal Issue

My name is D.J. Carson and I am running for SC State House District 77.

On numerous occasions and on his campaign web site, my opponent Councilman Joe McEachern has stated his educational priorities once elected would involve fixing No Child Left Behind.

Unfortunately, the Councilman is mistaken about President Bush’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. NCLB is a federal issue and not up for debate in South Carolina’s General Assembly. The constituents of District 77 deserve a representative who understands the issues and tells the truth as to what State Representatives can do to improve education in South Carolina. Fixing NCLB is not one of them.

Making it a priority to fully fund and support public education, however, is the one issue General Assembly members can do to improve education in South Carolina. My opponent’s alliances with known private-school vouchers and tuition tax-credit advocates should concern public education supporters in SC. Over 60% of my opponent’s 2006 campaign contributions came from out-of-state millionaires who believe in private-school and tuition tax-credit doctrine that would cripple SC’s public schools.

Private school vouchers, tuition tax credits, and home-school tax credits will not improve public education in District 77. A strong commitment by the SC General Assembly to support and fully fund public education will improve education in District 77 and SC overall.

If you are committed to improving public schools in House District 77, Vote DJ Carson June 10. Together we can bring the change needed for success.
