RNC Platform Committee Update:
The National Committee met via conference call this past week and discussed initial arrangements for the 2008 Platform Committee and the process of developing the platform that will be proposed to the National Convention in September.
RNC Chairman Mike Duncan announced the appointment of the Platform Committee Chairman, Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a pro-life freshman from California. The committee’s Executive Director will be Steven Duffield, the former senior policy advisor to Senator John Kyle (AZ). Duffield was heavily involved in Senate efforts to push for approval of President Bush’s judicial nominees, especially the nominations of John Roberts and Sam Alito.
Platform sub-committee chairs will not be decided until all states have finished the process of electing their National Convention delegates.
They put out a call for input from as many state party organizations as possible, and I suggested to our State Executive Committee that we submit the platform of the SCGOP as a model for the RNC’s consideration. Everyone agreed this was a good idea, and I am forwarding a copy to the new Platform Committee Chairman.
So what do liberals talk about when they get together and think no one else is listening? They talk about the rest of us, of course. Specifically, trying to explain why most people aren’t receptive to their ideas.
The latest example comes from Democrat front-runner Barack Obama at a recent San Francisco fundraiser, where he was caught on tape remarking (or psycho-analyzing) that many voters in the middle class tend to “cling” to God and guns whenever they’re bitter about their life.
Obama stated, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations”.
In other words, deep spiritual convictions and an appreciation of the Second Amendment are some sort of emotional or psychological disorder people suffer as a result of harsh economic conditions. Or maybe just because they haven’t given enough thought to the issues.
Maybe he thinks people who have material problems are bitter, or rather that we should expect them to be, after having sat for twenty years under a pastor who preached a gospel of bitterness towards America.
State GOP Executive Committee takes stand on immigration:
The State GOP Executive Committee met in Columbia this past weekend and passed a resolution on the immigration issue currently being debated in the State House. The following is a copy of the resolution:
WHEREAS:
The South Carolina Republican Party is on record opposing illegal immigration; and
WHEREAS:
The South Carolina Legislature is currently debating immigration issues; and
WHEREAS:
The procedure for verifying the employment eligibility of newly hired employees is critical to the security of our State.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
The State Executive Committee of the South Carolina Republican Party calls for the South Carolina Legislature to utilize the E-Verify system within our proud State of South Carolina.
Unanimously approved by the State Executive Committee of the South Carolina Republican Party.
In view of STATE GOP RESOLUTION ABOVE, it’s apparent that Columbia lawmakers are more beholden to the “shame ber of commerce” than to the executive committee of their own party. THROW THE INCUMBENT RASCALS OUT on June 10th.
