WALKER CALLS FOR ENDING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

Today, Rep. Bob Walker (R-Spartanburg) asked the State Senate to pass House bill H4451, which stops illegal immigrants in South Carolina from receiving college aid or scholarships. Walker along with Rep. Nathan Ballentine, (R-Irmo) were the primary sponsors of this bill. It passed the House on April 24, and is now being debated in the Senate Education Committee.

Walker has sent a letter to Senator John Courson, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, asking him to take up this bill as soon as possible.

“We should not give government support to anyone who is here illegally,” Walker said. “In 2007, the state of South Carolina gave out $271,465,313 in state scholarships and college aid, and we need to ensure it only goes to people who are here legally, not illegal immigrants,” stated Walker.

Walker is running for his eighth term in the South Carolina House and is Chairman of the Education and Public Works Committee. He is co-owner of Landrum Insurance Agency and a Deacon at Landrum First Baptist Church.
