Washington, DC—Congressman Gresham Barrett (SC, 03) joined Congressional leaders from all areas of the U.S. in a press conference today in Washington, D.C., to announce a common sense approach to increase America’s energy supply. Congressman Barrett joined Congressman Buyer (IN), Congressmen Zach Wamp (TN), Congressman Mark Souder (IN), Congressman Don Young (AK), and Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN) to announce H.R. 6001- the Main Street U.S.A. Energy Security Act 2008, to the nation.
“American’s are watching their paychecks disappear into their gasoline tanks- and the problem has only gotten worse in the past month. Congress needs an action-plan to lower the price of gasoline, and the Democrats haven’t come up with a solution yet. This legislation is the first step to our country becoming energy independent – and not reliant on international energy supplies,” said Congressman Barrett.
The Main Street USA Energy Independence Security Act, H.R. 6001, builds upon the Energy Policy Act of 2005. H.R. 6001 is a significant work product that has been a year in the making, providing America with a comprehensive energy policy. The bill would set America on a course to become less reliant on foreign energy and provide incentives for domestic exploration and energy access here on home soil.
Congressman Barrett will travel to three cities in the Third District on Friday, May 16, 2008, to introduce the bill to South Carolina gasoline consumers. He will travel to the following locations at specific times for his Main Street energy tour.
