Greenville, SC, May 15, 2008: The James Akers, Jr. for County Council Campaign announced today new campaign appearances to be held later this month. The first, a town hall meeting, will be held on Thursday May 29 at the Mauldin Library on Butler Road. This meeting will be held in the large conference room and will start at 6:00{PM. The second and third events are both to be held on Saturday May 31. First, Mr. Akers will speak to the Democratic Party in a candidate forum where Mr. Akers will have a chance to debate his opponents. This event will be during the Democratic Party Breakfast to be held at the Augusta Rd. Holiday Inn on Saturday May 31 at 8:30AM. The afternoon of Saturday, May 31 - Mr. Akers has accepted an invitation by the NAACP, League of Women Voters and 103.7 WJMZ Candidate Forum to be held at the Hughes Library in downtown Greenville. This event is scheduled from 2:30PM – 4:30PM. The fourth campaign appearance, an additional town hall meeting, will be held one week later on Thursday June 5 at the Augusta Road Library. This meeting will be in the large conference room and will start at 6:00PM. “These events are just another way for me to meet members of the public to hear what issues they feel County Council should be focusing on” Akers said. Mr. Akers is a real estate agent with RE/MAX Foothills located Downtown at the Hyatt and is a member of the Greenville Junior Chamber of Commerce. In addition Mr. Akers serves as President of his home owners association, and serves on the Grievance Committee and the Legislative Committee of the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors.
Mr. Akers’ platform is based on the need for better planned zoning and development, the need for better maintained roads, and providing a more responsive government for all citizens.
