Seneca, South Carolina–Over 50 of Oconee County’s most active Republican Party members turned out in support of candidate Ed Rumsey at an event featuring Governor Sanford at South Cove Park on Lake Keowee. Rumsey, a Veteran, small business owner, and former chairman of the Oconee County Republican Party, is running for the House District 2 seat.

At the event, Governor Sanford gave a rare endorsement to the Rumsey campaign, “I can count on two hands how many times I’ve endorsed a candidate in a primary,” Sanford stated. The Governor stated that his decision to support Ed Rumsey was based on Rumsey’s strong leadership skills and impeccable conservative credentials.

“Those of you who know Ed know that he happens to be a leader,” said Governor Sanford.
Governor Sanford stated a need for more conservative leadership and support in the General Assembly, “I desperately need more allies in the spending fight in Columbia,” Sanford said. Sanford stated that many of the members of the current legislature “consistently oppose his efforts” to bring about real change in South Carolina.

Sanford stated that he believes Ed Rumsey will “stick to Republican Party principles.”
Rumsey stated that he was “proud to serve alongside Governor Sanford” and was “indeed honored to have his endorsement at this event.”

As a lifelong conservative, Rumsey intends to make serious change in South Carolina: “I plan to go to Columbia and do my very best to do what’s right for the people of Oconee County and the people of South Carolina. We need to put a cap on spending, work towards enhancing educational opportunities for our children, and restructure our archaic form of government,” Rumsey stated.

Ed Rumsey is running against Bill Sandifer, a 14 year incumbent, who has been a staunch opponent to government reform, school choice, and limiting government spending.
