Gov. Sanford Joins in Kershaw County Jobs Center Grand Opening
New FACILITY REPRESENTS SIXth QuickJobs Center BEING BUILT IN SOUTH CAROLINA
Columbia, S.C. – May 14, 2010 – Gov. Sanford today joined Kershaw County economic development leaders and local technical college directors in announcing the grand opening of the Kershaw County QuickJobs Center. This jobs center will provide skills training in several professional tracks, including industrial maintenance, mechanics, welding and computer-aided drafting (CAD).
“The opening of this training center represents not only a significant advance for the Kershaw County community,” Gov. Sanford said, “but also a step in the right direction toward our continued goal of matching unemployed South Carolinians with job opportunities across the state. As jobs and capital continue to migrate into South Carolina, it becomes increasingly important to have a workforce equipped with the kind of skills that can support an expanding economy – and that’s what this QuickJobs Center is designed to provide. This has been a real team effort on the part of the Kershaw County Economic Development Office, the Kershaw County Council, Central Carolina Tech, and the South Carolina Department of Commerce. Indeed there’s a long list of people to thank, and at the top of that list I’d mention Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor for his leadership in helping to establish training centers in those places around the state – including rural areas – that stand to benefit from them most.”
The Kershaw County QuickJobs Center – the sixth QuickJobs Center being built in South Carolina – was in part made possible by a Community Development Block Grant from the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
