Gov. Sanford Wishes South Carolina Happy 4th of July Weekend
Columbia, S.C. – July 2, 2010 - Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following 4th of July message to South Carolinians:
“As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence, I think it’s essential that we as Americans and as South Carolinians remember what this day is ultimately about – and what it’s about, in a word, is freedom. Ask anyone from any part of this vast country what it means to be an American, and invariably you’ll hear the word ‘freedom.’ As Americans, we’re free to lead our own lives, raise our families, and decide where to spend our time and resources. It would indeed be impossible to exaggerate the blessings we’ve enjoyed because we are a free people, and for that reason I’d simply ask that every South Carolinian take a moment over this Independence Day weekend to one, thank those stationed here in the United States and overseas who are protecting our freedoms, and two, to take stock of those blessings of liberty – and rededicate themselves to doing what they can in their day-to-day lives to preserve them.”
