South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Endorses Mike Huckabee for President

Andre Bauer says Huckabee is Best to Lead America

Columbia, SC — South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer endorsed Mike Huckabee for President, it was announced today. Bauer will join Huckabee as well as Former Governor David Beasley, State Chairman Mike Campbell , Chuck Norris, and Ric Flair on the campaign trail on Thursday.

Bauer stated, “I, like many voters, have been previously undecided, but this election is too important to sit on the sidelines.  This week, I have decided to vote for Mike Huckabee, and I urge all South Carolinians to join me in voting for Mike Huckabee this Saturday. Simply put, I believe Mike Huckabee is the best of several fine candidates to lead America .  As America faces tough times, Mike Huckabee has the character, integrity, and proven leadership to ensure our greatest days are yet to come.”

“Also, I’ve tried to carefully compare each candidate’s position as it relates to issues affecting senior citizens, and I’ve concluded that Mike Huckabee is a sound choice for senior citizens,”  Bauer said.  As Lt. Governor, Bauer heads the state’s office on aging.

Bauer also said he admires Huckabee’s ability to win against the odds, noting that he, too, has a history of winning races considered to be upsets.

“Nobody knows better than I do that it’s the people, not the polls, which determines the winner on election day,” Bauer said.  “I believe the fact that Mike Huckabee has stayed positive while others have waged negative campaigns against him, will sway undecided voters toward him.  I believe it speaks to his character.”

Huckabee stated, “I welcome Andre’s support and am glad to have him on board Team Huckabee. I’m really pleased to have the support of a leader with such a solid record of achievement and a reputation for hard work and being a servant of the people, who shares my commitment to conservative governance.”

Bauer, who is serving his second term as South Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor, has joined Mike Huckabee’s leadership team in South Carolina, which already includes Former Governor David Beasley, United States Congressman Bob Inglis, State Chairman Mike Campbell and the family of Former Governor Carroll A. Campbell Jr., and numerous state legislators including Greenville State Senator David Thomas, Rex Rice, and Liston Barfield of Conway.

MIKE HUCKABEE CLAIMS VICTORY AT IOWA STRAW POLL

Posted in Mike Huckabee, Press Release by schotline on August 12th, 2007

NEWS RELEASE

AMES, Iowa – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee claimed a “historic victory” at Saturday’s Republican Party of Iowa Straw Poll, saying he has substantial momentum heading into the next phase of the campaign.

Despite a clear financial disadvantage, Huckabee said he came in second place on account of several factors, including his experience as an executive leader, the strength of his message and his vision for the future.

“This caps off a great week here in Iowa .  My goal in Iowa was to introduce myself to voters in the Hawkeye State and create enough momentum to send our campaign to New Hampshire and South Carolina .  We’ve met, and exceeded, that goal with limited resources both in terms of money and staff,” Huckabee said.

“Tonight’s results prove that our message of results-driven optimism resonates with real people; that our organization can put together a successful effort; and that Iowa is winnable for us.  We over-performed by having more votes and tickets purchased and having no paid media, unlike other candidates.”

Huckabee added his gratitude to the men and women of Iowa for their participation in the straw poll, while looking forward to a return visit to the Hawkeye state.

“I have to tip my hat to the dedicated caucus-goers who put up with this heated frenzy and came out to vote,” Huckabee said. “I am deeply grateful to all the families who invited me into their homes, met me in coffee shops and diners, shared their stories, and listened to my ideas on improving America .

“I am looking forward to returning to Iowa to work even harder to lift our campaign to victory by showing Americans there is a higher ground to be reached by bringing hope back to America with fairer taxes, a working health care system, energy self-reliance, and reinvestment in America ’s future,” he added.

‘First Family of South Carolina Presidential Politics’

Endorses Mike Huckabee

Campbells say Huckabee is ‘Best to Lead America

COLUMBIA, SC – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee announced Monday that former South Carolina First Lady Iris Campbell will serve as Honorary South Carolina State Chair of his Presidential Exploratory Committee – and that Campbell’s youngest son, Mike Campbell, will serve as a Senior National Advisor to the campaign.

“I am tremendously pleased and honored to have the winning support of such a gracious and politically-savy First Lady, Iris Campbell, and her son, Mike Campell, a rising star both in South Carolina and nationally,” said Huckabee during a news conference today. “I look forward to their guidance and leadership in this critically-important state as we move forward.”

Mrs. Campbell stated, “Mike Huckabee is a tremendous leader who will make a great President. He is a true conservative and a man of character and vision. Mike is the kind of individual Carroll would have enjoyed helping and I am proud to offer my support and look forward to helping him get elected. ”

Mike Campbell joined, “Governor Huckabee is the only candidate with proven conservative credentials. In addition, his executive experience and common-sense approach to governing will serve our nation well. He is a genuine leader who possesses true conviction on the challenges facing our nation and doesn’t have to attempt to re-invent himself for the sake of getting elected. People throughout South Carolina and across America can identify with Mike Huckabee and will elect our next President.”

Since 1980, the late Governor Carroll Campbell and his family have played an integral role in helping each candidate they have chosen to support (Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, and George W. Bush) win the South Carolina GOP Presidential Primary – and ultimately the nomination.

In the late 1970’s, then-Congressman Carroll Campbell, along with close friend Lee Atwater, mapped out a plan to hold a South Carolina presidential primary early enough to play a significant role in the nomination process.

In 1980, the first South Carolina primary was held. That year the SC party established led by Sen. Strom Thurmond and former Gov. Jim Edwards supported early frontrunner, John Connelly. However, Carroll and Iris Campbell decided to support the underdog, Ronald Reagan.

Carroll Campbell signed on to be Reagan’s state chairman. Together, the Campbells and Lee Atwater delivered a resounding victory for Reagan in South Carolina. Since then, no Republican has won the nomination or the presidency without first winning in South Carolina and having Campbell family’s support. Many credit Reagan’s victory in 1980 to Carroll Campbell.

Barbara Bush has stated that “neither my husband nor my son would have been president had it not be for the efforts of Carroll and Iris Campbell.”

South Carolina plays an integral role in the Republican nomination process. It has been the firewall state for those who came up short in Iowa and New Hampshire and has consistently provided the nominee the initial momentum to win the Republican nomination.

Having learned at the feet of his masterful father, Mike Campbell, the Campbell’s youngest son, is continuing the late Governor’s legacy. In June 2006, he won a three-way primary for Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina by 8% — before narrowly losing in a run-off two weeks later (by less than 2%) to the incumbent. Despite his loss, he is widely considered a rising star within the GOP.

Said Huckabee: “The Campbell family is an icon in South Carolina politics. Mike Campbell has keen political instincts and ability – and will no doubt make a comeback. I am proud to have him – and Iris – on my team.”
