Stringer Endorsed by Governor Sanford

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford announced Monday June 2, 2008 that he has endorsed Tommy Stringer, Republican candidate for House of Representatives, District 18.

“Electing real conservatives to public office is key to limiting spending and slowing the growth of state government. Whether it’s been in his reform work as a university trustee or his experience as a business owner, we think Tommy’s perspective would be a real value in our efforts to change Columbia . Tommy would be an important ally in the House, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting him.” Sanford said.

“I am very grateful to Governor Sanford for his support,” Stringer said. “I appreciate his recognition of the service that I and other conservative trustees have performed at Coastal Carolina University to save taxpayer’s money. I believe that my experience in demanding accountability and transparency of public spending along with my work with individual corporate clients has prepared me to fight for accountability in Columbia. I look forward to working with him if I am elected.

Tommy Stringer was elected by the General Assembly to the Coastal Carolina University Board of Trustees in 2006. He serves as board secretary and is chairman of the Audit Committee.

A life-long resident of northern Greenville County, Stringer and his wife, Carrie, have a son. He is active at the First Presbyterian Church Greenville where he has served as deacon and bible-study teacher. Stringer is a graduate of Bob Jones University and did graduate studies at Clemson.

District 18 includes Blue Ridge, Greer and Taylors.

SCHotline has called the Governor’s office and has learned that Governor Sanford has not endorsed Tommy Stringer. Governor Sanford did approve the quote in the press release but he has not endorsed him? We are confused about this and we will let you sort it out.
