Columbia, SC – Today, State Senator John Matthews, State Representative Bakari Sellers, and former Richland County Democratic Party chairman Steve Benjamin endorsed Rob Miller in the Democratic Primary for US Congress in the Second Congressional District. Matthews represents Hampton and Orangeburg Counties. Sellers represents Barnwell and Orangeburg Counties. Benjamin was the 2002 Democratic nominee for Attorney General, and currently works as an attorney in Columbia.
“Rob Miller is the fighter we need in Washington,” said Benjamin. “He’ll fight for new jobs and better health care for people in the Second District.”
Throughout the campaign, Miller has emphasized a message of change, which was one of the deciding factors for the endorsers.
“I’m supporting Rob because he’ll be the voice for change we need in Washington. He represents new leadership and new ideas,” said Sellers.
Today’s endorsements by Matthews, Sellers, and Benjamin add to many Democratic leaders who have already thrown their support behind Miller.
“Across the Second District, I’ve encountered scores of people, Democrats and Republicans, who are excited about our campaign to bring new leadership and new ideas to Congress. I appreciate the support of Senator Matthews, Representative Sellers, and Mr. Benjamin, and thank them for their service to our state,” said Miller.
Miller, who served twice in Iraq, finished 13 years of service with the US Marine Corps in February of this year and now runs a small business with his wife in Beaufort.
