Major Matthew Franke selected “Chaplain for the Day” in House of Representatives tomorrow

Chaplain, Major Matthew Franke, USAF has been selected as “Chaplain for the Day” and will give the invocation in the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday morning when the Chamber gavels into session at 10 a.m.

Franke is currently serving as a Legislative Fellow in the Fourth Congressional District Office in Washington and is also on active duty as a member of the United States Air Force.

“Scripture specifically tells us to pray for those in authority, that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives (1 Timothy 2:1-2). I pray for our elected leaders every week,” Franke said. “This time they’ll actually get to hear me.”

“It’s an honor to have Matthew serve as Chaplain tomorrow and also work as a Legislative Fellow in our Fourth District Office,” U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis said. “He’s spearheaded our ongoing Health Care Tour this year and we’re thankful to have him.”

An ordained chaplain, Franke has served the Air Force across the globe from Portugal, to France as well as Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005.

Franke most recently served as Senior Protestant Chaplain, Headquarters 90th Space Wing, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming.  As Senior Protestant Chaplain, he oversaw all Protestant Parish ministries and was pastor for the Protestant Traditional, Liturgical and Contemporary Worship Services.

A native of Frankfort, Ky. and graduate of Franklin County High School, Franke earned a degree in electrical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis before moving on to Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., graduating with a degree in Liberal Studies.

Franke’s wife Martha and daughter Rachel (3) will be attendance tomorrow, while sons Michal (20) Joshua (18) and Jacob (17) will be unable to attend. His extended family resides in Perryville, Mo.
