COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham made the following statement about the selection of Governor Sarah Palin to run as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee with Senator John McCain:

“This is an historic day for the Republican Party and the United States of America. I’ve never been more proud of my friend John McCain who made a wise and bold choice for his running mate in Governor Sarah Palin.

“As Vice President, Sarah Palin will bring a new attitude to Washington that is long overdue. Some people talk about change, but Governor Palin has made it happen. She has been an impressive and unyielding fighter against waste and corruption at every level of government. She is a tough, reform-minded governor who will complement what John McCain will do in his administration. Together, they will make sure government works for people, not against them.

“In her efforts to reform Alaska, Governor Palin has upset the political establishment while pleasing the hard-working taxpayers. Governor Palin’s life is a great example to us all, particularly young women who may harbor thoughts of public service. The combination of John McCain and Sarah Palin is going to shake Washington, DC to its foundation and represents the best chance for the American people to reform their government.”

A test of whether Palin will be a net gain in votes for McCain is this:

Woud you have voted for her for president if she had been a candidate in the Republican presidential primary?
