Laurens, S.C. – April 1, 2009 – Laurens County Legislator Jeff Duncan will officially announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Congress for the Third Congressional District of South Carolina at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009 on the Square in Laurens. Immediately following his announcement as a candidate for Congress, Duncan will begin a three-day campaign tour that will take him to every corner of the district to meet and listen to voters.
Jeff Duncan has represented District 15 in the South Carolina House of Representatives since 2003, and has become a respected conservative leader during his six-year tenure. As a result of his proven conservative leadership skills, Duncan now serves as Chairman of the Agriculture, Natural Resources Committee – one of the six major standing committees in the South Carolina House.
During his service in the Legislature Jeff Duncan has received several awards for his unwavering conservatism and his fiscal discipline. Governor Mark Sanford has named Duncan a “Taxpayer Hero” every year. Duncan has also received the “Friend of Small Business” Award from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and has received an “A+” rating from the Club for Growth.
In addition to those awards, Duncan has also received the Palmetto Leadership Award from S.C. Policy Council (2003); “Legislator of the Year” from the S.C. Recreation and Parks Association; and “Legislator of the Year” from the S.C. Wildlife Federation (2007).
Jeff Duncan, 43 is a real estate broker and auctioneer. He graduated from Clemson University in 1988 with a B.A. degree in political science. Duncan is the owner of J. Duncan & Associates. He and his wife of 20 years, the former Melody Ann Hodges, reside in Laurens, South Carolina with their three sons, Graham, John Philip, and Parker. The Duncans are members of First Baptist Church of Clinton, where Jeff also serves as a Deacon.
