Guest Speaker: Ashley Landess, President
S. C. Policy Council

Ashley Landess was born in Spartanburg, S.C. She has
also lived in Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. She
has a journalism degree from the University of North
Texas. Her 20-year career in communications includes
public policy work as well as consulting for private
businesses and charitable organizations. Ashley has
been President of the South Carolina Policy Council
since January 2008. Prior to assuming this position she
previously served as its Vice President for Public Affairs
from 1998 to 2008.

Ashley served on the SC Lottery Commission from 2003-
2008 and was appointed by then-House Speaker David
Wilkins. She served on the Executive Committee of the
Commission and chaired its advertising and marketing
committee. She was also appointed by Governor Sanford
in 2005 to chair School District Consolidation, which was
legislatively charged with analyzing the cost savings from
consolidation. Ashley also served as a member of the
Governor’s Health Care Task Force in 2003.

Ashley writes opinion columns on issues such as
education reform, tax policy and government transparency,
and those columns are published in dailies and weeklies
across the state. She has appeared on statewide television
and radio and delivered expert testimony on several issues.
