Pee Dee Businessman Ken Ard Running for Lieutenant Governor

(Florence/Coumbia)- Friday, May 15th, 2009- Pee Dee Businessman and Florence County Councilman Ken Ard formally announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor in 2010.

At two press conferences surrounded by supporters on Friday, one in Florence at Redbone Alley at 12:30pm and the other on the steps of the Statehouse in Columbia at 4:30pm, he made it official.

Saying, “I have a simple philosophy: There’s nothing wrong with South Carolina that more and better jobs won’t fix.” Ard outlined one of the key issues in his campaign. His plan is to “continue the work being done on behalf of our seniors while bringing a new focus on economic development and job creation.”

Ard also outlined his feelings about agriculture by saying “As a lifelong resident of the PeeDee, I have a unique understanding of South Carolina’s role as a leader in agriculture. As Lieutenant Governor, I will work hand-in-hand with farmers to help them expand and become more profitable.”

He concluded his press conference by asking the assembled crowd to join him “as we work together to make South Carolina a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Ard resides in Pamplico with his wife, Tammy, and their three children: Jesse, 18; Mason, 17; and Libby, 6. As an accomplished businessman, Ard understands that small business is the lifeblood of our economy. Ard serves on the Florence County Council and attends Southside Baptist Church in Florence.

Ken’s speech was great at the SCGOP convention. I think he will be an excellent choice to lead South Carolina. As a small businessman, he knows what tough challenges are facing our state.

What refreshing ideas this man has. Lawmakers tend to forget about the effects of their decisions on every day citizens. Ken Ard’s campaign is off to a great start and his website is pretty neat:
