Columbia resident Doris Greene is helping oversee efforts to ensure that everyone in the state is counted. Through a statewide “complete count” committee system, the work includes outreach to civic, faith, business and education groups. “We’re just trying to reach people so they know how critical they are to that count in South Carolina,” Greene says.
And everyone means everyone, including prisoners and residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. “Everybody counts in the census,” says James Casey, manager of an office the Census Bureau opened in Columbia in October.
