Inglis votes to defund Planned Parenthood
U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) voted Friday in support of an amendment that would defund Planned Parenthood by prohibiting any funds in the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill to be directed toward the agency promoting abortion.
The amendment sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) was defeated by the Democratic majority, 183-247.
“It’s offensive to me and to many South Carolinians that the largest provider of abortions in the United States is supported by taxpayer money,” Inglis said. “I know they’ll say that no federal funds are used for abortions, but if you give Planned Parenthood money for covering other projects and programs, that frees up money that they can devote to aborting babies.”
Planned Parenthood is one of the largest recipients of Family Planning money and largest abortion providers in the country. In 2008, the organization performed nearly 290,000 abortions.
Inglis has been recognized annually for his pro-life voting record by the National Right to Life, Focus on the Family and Family Research Council.
