WASHINGTON – Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) Statement on President Obama’s Health Care Address

WASHINGTON – Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) issued the following statement today regarding President Obama’s address to Congress on health care reform.

“Tonight’s address to Congress will mark the 28th time President Obama has given a national speech on health care. It should be quite clear that at this point it is not the sales pitch but the product itself that many Americans find troubling.

“Republicans agree that we should pass targeted reforms to our health insurance industry. That was also the message shared by many Americans this August when they stood up at town hall meetings to have their voices heard. They want, as do we, to fix what is failing in our system; to give Americans assistance and more of their own dollars to purchase insurance; address runaway malpractice expenses that add to the cost of care; establish pooling mechanisms for individuals and businesses to secure more affordable policies. There are any number of different strategies we can pursue in a bipartisan manner to expand affordability and accessibility to health care without replacing our current health care system with a big government system.”

“The President’s speech – no matter how eloquent – will not erase the fact that the legislation being offered by his Democrat allies costs $1 trillion dollars, adds billions to our nation’s debt, and imposes taxes on individuals and small businesses which will destroy millions of jobs. That is why Americans deserve a new effort and a new bill not a new speech.”

You just showed the whole world how “ghetto” South Carolina is. You own party (of which I am a proud member) wants nothing to do with you. I agree with Sen. McCains Comments: Apologize. Publically. Or go down in infamy.

You did not help us this day.

Why do YOU pee on yourself every time Obama speaks? Why do you BEND OVER for government and invite government to screw you? YOU are dependent and incapable of getting along withOUT government. You want Obama to STEAL from producers and give to NON-producers like you. Socialism is a cancer that robs the wealth of a nation and gives it to the GREEDY like YOU.

Respect, hell, Obama has earned NONE. He has NO clue and surrounded himself with dumb ass tax cheats who have the arrogance to ask me for more tax money. Yes, we are angry and tired of big government no matter which party causes it.

Since YOU want us ALL to have shared misery (definition of socialism, which is based on envy) then YOU set the example and go live under a bridge and show us how great socialism is. Hope YOU LOSE your job, home and family … it is what YOU want for others.

YOU are the ignorant light weight. You have NEVER paid any real taxes. You have NEVER created a job and neither has Obama.

I would say way to go Joe. The American people don’t want to buy what This President and Democratic leadership are selling. You can wrap it up, put a bow on it but we don’e want it. They remind me of a snake oil salesman that stood in the back of a pick up trying to sell his snake oil. The only difference is when the people said no thanks he went on his way. The President and Democratic leadership are trying to force it down our throats.

Jana, 80% of ALL Americans want health reform, not status quo. Your party seems to be offering status quo in a shiny wrapper. Its sad that we have our different realities, but don’t assume that ALL Americans think like you. Read the Bill if you’re so passionate. No one will come to force reform down YOUR throat. They’re trying to help people without insurance. Do you hate your countrymen so bad, that you’d rather have them die of unattended sickness than be rescued by a democrat? This shows how far you are from the reality middle class sees.

It is regrettable that someone with such a tentative grasp of the subject of health care reform is representing our great state in what could be one of the most pivotal moments in the history of this great nation: will we morally cover our own people with health insurance? I have been among the uninsured, and now have one of the best health care plans available, and I can assure you that the difference between having a safety net and having none is staggering. The health care that I receive now far outweighs that available to me as an uninsured individual. I would certainly recommend that you consider those who are less well off, and unable to afford health insurance, or those who may shortly find themselves in such a condition, before you condemn the plan for health care reform. Do not reject the possibility that this plan may one day save your life, or the lives of those you love, just because you do not care for its source. Do not allow the likes of Joe Wilson to decide for you. Read it for yourself. Go to factcheck.org, a non-partisan organization designed with the voter in mind, and be educated on this issue before you make up your mind.

It’s not so much being forced down your throats – it’s democracy and you lost the election while the rest of America voted for change. It’s not: Heads we win tails you lose, doesn’t work like that. You lose the other side runs the show. So don’t say anything is being forced down your throat. The winners are running the country, that’s democracy. Majority RULES.

You guys can have fun buying stupid bumper stickers that say things like “i’ll keep my guns, you keep the change” and all that.

I hope you republicans can understand that elections have consequences and you don’t get what you want so easily because your candidate lost the presidential election. Deal with it.

Whatever your stance on healthcare, this was outrageously disgraceful and disrespectful behavior. It was disrespectful to the office of the Presidency and disrespectful to the institution of Congress in which you serve. Disrespect to the institutions that make this country free and lawful are disrespect to all Americans and to American tradition. You are unfit for the office you fill.

In addition, the president was stating what kind of plan he supports and is proposing. To call him a liar on this is to claim you know more about what he supports than he does. That is flat out impossible and unreasonable. And it is easily fact-checked, which I hope everyone listening has had the responsibility to do. Your contempt for this country is beyond words.

I applaud Sen. Wilson for taking a stand and doing what he is getting paid to do, represent the people of South Carolina and not shrink away into the shadows with his tail between his legs. His only mistake is appologizing to the biggest liar to ever sit in the white house. The Republicans should take the democratic healthcare plan and go through it and show America how everything he said in his speeh was a lie. How anyone with a single living brain cell can stand beind this narcissistic fascist and believe anything that comes out of his rascist mouth is beyond all rational understanding. If you wangt to do something about health care:

If you don’t believe that we should have a civil discussion where everyone is heard and where all respect the institutions of this country, then you have no idea what it means to be an American and you have a nerve calling him a “fascist.” By the way, “fascism” and “socialism” are historically opposed points of view, so he can hardly be both, now, can he? you are simply showing your ignorance. Your contempt for public debate and the institutions of this country make you more fit for the label “fascist” than those to whom you apply it.

I am totally with you, Matt and the other “smart ones” on this board. I don’t think that some of the American people the president is fooling are actually understanding that most Americans, Republican AND Democrat want a reform in the health care field. We need that. However, what Mr. Obama is outlining is a big LIE. We will NOT have the same health care that Congress does, no matter what he is saying. But he twists the truth to make it look like that will be the case. Wake up and find out what the real health care bill will be. We will ALL be FORCED to have health care coverage wether we can afford it or not, or wether we want it or not. It can’t be any simpler but not all Americans get it. There is no way that the Government will run the health care any better than they have run the Post Office or Education or any number of government programs. Why would we want to let them have more control over our lives??? That is the first step to making more people dependent on government and working towards socialism. NOT my idea of Freedom in this great nation we call home.

OH yeah calling the president a liar while he is holding a congressional speech is really standing up for your rights…. that’s the problem right there buddy. You have no idea what standing up for your rights is. You think even if that were true that’s its acceptable to not only break the house’s rules of conduct, unable to conduct yourself as a mature adult and an inability to control your emotions in front of millions of people watching is standing up for one’s rights….. well I’ve said enough it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that you are the type to start a fist fight at town hall meeting. As an American citizen and a lifelong republican I cannot begin to tell you how disgeaceful I find your behaviour at tonight’s presidential address. We all hear things about how much vituperativenss exists between the parties in Washington. But calling the president of the US a “liar” in a public forum is so far over the top and disrespectful that I plan to make it my personal business to see that whoever runs against you in the next election wins. There is no place in the congress of the US for someone like you!

This is America. We still have some decency left. It is not the guts …. It is the civility, decorum, and respect.

What Joe Wilson did today is disgraceful and disrespectful for the institution.

I know a lot of Texans …. and not one of them will agree with you. Grow up, go back to school, and learn some manners for God’s sake.

      • September 10, 2009 12:25 pm

        Marge,
It is unfortunately clear that you have no idea of what you are talking about- you have not read the bills proposed, and what the president was discussing last night is in fact not in any particular bill- he was giving his goals and guidelines and saying what he will sign. If you don’t understand that you can have no possible evidence for claiming he is “lying,” then you aren’t capable fo basic reasoning.

On top of that, your continual “shouting” in caps with long incoherent paragraphs says a lot about your sense of civility. Clearly you don’t value manners and reasoned debate, so of course you think your legislator should shout the opposition down and insult them. Most of his own party, and most Americans, disagree. We are still a “civil society” in every meaning of that phrase and intend to remain so.

Thank you, Pat Novak! Just pray for Joe Wilson as the search and detroy press will be after him from David Axlerod and Ron Emanuel and try to bring him down with their Chicago and Washington, DC thugs; AND PRAY for OUR COUNTRY and us to still have the same country that others hate.

If this health care goes through, it cannot be changed… EVER! The government has been taking things over for years. Just look what they “took out” (destroyed) since January. Look at the trillions of debt we are in. Would the people stand for this if it were Bush? You better believe that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would stop the American people by going against the Bush Administration as well who were less devious and crooked than they ever were.

Since when does a bill get passed overnight with over 1000 pages, handed to the Senate, and told they have 9 hours to read and sign it to save our country from bankruptcy?! That’s fear mongering and scare tactics. Have you seen any recovery in the economy or your own friends/family or neighborhood. No one I know has.

Next comes the failing of commercial property (small businesses) just like the home subprime debt. Obama said this week that more jobs are going to be lost! WHY????!!!! What happened to the lost TARP money and Stimulus 2? The monies were to CREATE jobs and NOT save them.! The saving oif jobs were NEVER in the discussion. How many did they create? How many did they save? NONE!

I worked for the federal government out of DC and saw so much waste and corruption. They’d spend $500 for a hammer or $2000 for a commode for years and years. Anything they ever took over has been raped of its money or destoryed. They have told us for years that social security, medicare, medicaid, is broken and headed for bankruptcy. THEY KEEP TALKING ABOUT TRUST FUNDS; there are NO social security, medicare, and medicaid trust funds. They DON’t exist!!! The same is so for the post offices.

Their excuse is “well you all accept and love national government medicare, medicaid, and social security.” Well what’s this government’s excuse?; they bankrupt them! That’s good government run agancies?!! NO WAY! What will National Health Care do?
Employers will find it cheaper to NOT pay health insurance as the fine/fees would be cheaper to pay; we’d all be in the National Health Care Plan.

I have a friend from England who had to wait a year to get her hysterectory and thyroidectory that’s been cancerous! They forced both operations the same day with cancerous medication that’s not aggressive enoough. She JUST may die!!! She’s in her 50’s! She lost a 12 year old son, as well.

IS THIS THE “KIND OF CHANGE WE BELIEVE IN?” IS THIS THE “KIND OF CHANGE WE EXPECTED?” IS THIS THE “KIND OF CHANGE WE FELL FOR?” IS THIS THE “KIND OF CHANGE FROM THE MANTRA “YES, WE CAN?” or “YES, WE DID?” GOD HELP US!!!

If Bush was still President, they’d never put up with all these millions of jobs lost, trillions of dollars in debt, no health insurance (maybe they’re manipulating that to make people accept their National Health Care Plan or whatever it’s name is today) by destroying more jobs). Whirlpool will lose 1100 soon.

Did you support him at all to others and speak up for any good he did? After all, we are to respect EVERY President and pray for them.

IS THIS “THE CHANGE YOU BELIEVE IN?” IS THIS “THE CHANGE YOU ASKED FOR?” ARE ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS WORKING, HAVE INSURANCE, AND BETTER OFF THIS YEAR THAN LAST? We are to honor ALL Presidents UNLESS they are egregious. Did you ever say, “Bush Lied, People Died?” or other such mantras? Why didn’t Obama keep his many promises to us including getting our troops out of Iraq, Afghabnistan, and Pakistan?

As Colin Powel said to Bush “You break it, you bought it.” That’s Obama’s forte with Afghanistan and Pakistan. I AM NEITHER REPUBLICAN NOR DEMOCRAT. I AM AN AMERICAN who researches everyone and makes up my own mind. I listen to them all on tv and radio.

I WANT JOBS AND ECONOMY FOR EVERYONE….and NO NATIONAL HEALTH CARE as their way to change tactics lately as to what’s most important. Once it’s law, IT CANNOT BE OVERTURNED.

Both guys made their “barbs” tonight. That’s politics; if one can’t take the heat, they don’t belong there nor need to listen or watch. Just as we had the Apollo group write the Stimulus Package Plan to say we had to have 1000 pages read at midnight and signed at 9 am, or the US would go bankrupt, the country fell for the scare tactics and fear mongering. Obama and the administration didn’t even make this one up nor read it. Nancy Pelosi was behind it along with Harry Reid whose numbers in the house are running out until he is defeated.

JULIA….Isn’t that awefully harsh to wish cancer on someone?! Do you see it’s worse than what Joe Wilson said. Believe me, he’d never say that about you! Would you like that to be said about someone you love or to happen to you? I’ve lost enoiugh cancer friends this past year and another is shaky. She’s had National Health Care that makes people wait 1 year for cancer treatments. Then they gave her a hysterectomy and throidectomy at the same time!!! I don’t know if the chemo is in time!!!

Woul you ever write a letter or say in person to his children and wife you wish their daddy and husband got cancer if it’s so nice to share? What we say, hope, or wish about someone comes back to us AND worse!

It is obvious you are not from S.C. as I have been for 20 years giving up the northern states and 1 Southern: New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, Washington DC (worked for the federal governemt), Virginia, and settled to my beloved S.C.

It’s obvious you don’t know politics. Joe broke a rule and apologized. This has been blown out of proportion. He didn’t kill anyone. Obama wants his health care plan for his legacy and to say he did something for the Kennedy family and to get Americans eyes and speeches forgotten during the August congressional recess of town halls where the people spoke against this plan. His words weren’t nice at times either, tonight. That’s what anger does to people. Now, he believed to save his program he had to go out to the public as much as possible this week to try to change the democrats minds and the American people. That’s how Washington, DC works. Afterwards, they go out to dinner together and pal around and visit one another.

The sick will be cared for, especially the children, as long as there are no jobs. Kids have the “schip” and medicaid. Doctors and hospitals do free work. We had to go to the free clinics and be with the strange scary homeless who live in parks and under bridges….a very humbling experience…but for the grace of God, go I or you or anyone else. WE had 5 years of no work and no one was in the same situation as us until we became employed. We were being denied everything. Now people are receiving all kinds of hope and help for themselves and children.

Educate yourself. Learn about the parties. Research what each senator and congressman/woman do in your local, state, and federal government. What they do DOES affect you! I AM AN AMERICAN AND NOT OF A PARTY. I WANT TO KNOW AS MUCH AS I CAN TO LEARN THE TRUE FACTS FOR MYSELF.

No, Congress saw the intelligence that was MANUFACTURED by the White House Iraq Group, directed by Cheney & Rumsfeld, for the purpose of selling an illegal invasion. By the way, Bush’s wars were never officially ‘declared’ by Congress, either, Bu$hco just went ahead and invaded Afghanistan and Iraq anyway.

I am so sick of the GOP thinking that benign Presidential speeches, blowjobs, and legislation to stop rampant right-wing corruption is worse than lying a country into war, killing our troops and innocent people for oil, losing trillions of the defense budget, torture, murder of ‘inconvenient’ whistleblowers, bribery, and the wholesale fleecing of US citizens by the Federal Reserve and banksters.

MARY M….FIRST OF ALL I AM NOT OF A PARTY. I AM A PROUD AMERICAN. MY INFORMATION COMES FROM RESEARCH OF FACTS. MY TV OBSERVATIONS CONSISTS OF ALL LIBERAL, PROGRESSIVE, MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, CONSERVATIVE, C-SPANS, AND OTHERS. THEN I MAKE UP MY OWN MIND ON ALL ISSUES. NONE OF THESE PROGRAMS TURNS ME OFF. I WANT TO KNOW WHO OUR ENEMIES ARE WITHIN AND WITHOUT THIS GREAT COUNTRY.

Colin Powell, said the same as Bush that there WERE wmds, and then Colin changed his mind for political convenience. There WERE weapons of mass distruction in Iraq. Congresss APPROVED the U.S. to go to war! Hillary approved the war.

Obama PROMISED us on the campaign and when he won, the very first thing he was going to do was bring home our troops. PROMISE WAS AND STILL IS BROKEN. NOW IT’S HIS WAR…Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Not one tv station will show the daily deaths or hardly mention it. WHY? WHY AREN’T OUR TROOPS HOME AS HE PROMISED US?!

My family/relatives watched the whole thing about Iraq many nights into the wee hours of the morning. We saw on satellite wmd’s being moved by some type of trucks; they were sent to Iran and Russia. There was plenty of time to do this.

We didn’t ignore the Jewish people (well almost too late, that is) who were in concentration camps and massed murdered. Didn’t you see the naked bodies in the TRENCHES that Saddam Hussein had told his men to be shot and placed there with his henchmen? What about the women and children being tortured, raped, not permitted to practice their professions, children not prmitted to go to school, body parts cut off, murdered by their immediate families if the young women were considered to do or say something dishonoring religion murdered by the father or brother(s) killing her? That was a war worth fighting as I watched it more and more to see the joy of the children and lives restored. Afghanistan and Pakistan is NONE of our business.

We need to concentrate NOT on health care BUT jobs and the economy. This continuous push for National Health Care is a diversionary tactic to take our eyes off jobs. When people have jobs they usually have insurance. We need a better economy. Soon we are going to be facing another sub-prime situation…….
commercial realestate with businesses closing. I’ve seen this coming for 2 years. Health care can wait a little longer. There is medicare, medicaid, and cities with free health clinics (with the homeless) my family has had to utilize though very scary at first, but we went.

Representative Wilson, saw the video clip of your demonstration in the House of Representatives to-night, and have to say that, in my opinion, it was disgraceful.

Whatever differences you have with the Obama Administration over health care reform are yours to express, surely.

But, to openly call anyone, especially in a public forum like the House of Representatives’ floor, and from the relative safety of the gallery, might I add, a liar, or to allege that someone is lying, whether President, Pope or pauper, is not only deeply offensive and hurtful, but helps coarsen the already coarsened and nasty tone of much of the health care reform debate in this country even further.

You, Sir, are a public official, and a politician, so you know precisely the weight and meaning of words and gestures within a political context, or at least should know.

That means that you, and others like you, regardless of ideology, party or faction, should know better than to indulge yourselves in cheap rhetorical stunts like the one you pulled to-night.

You have brought shame upon yourself, Sir, and, though I hope not, upon the good names of the state and people of South Carolina through your words and actions to-night.

You have also helped to dis-credit your cause, and shame on you for that as well.

I should hope that you will make a full and public apology for your words and actions to-night, to-morrow, and make no excuses for them, either.

That would do much, I think, to restore your good name in the eyes of much of the general public.

Sincerely, Donald Rilea, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

They should be deported and the employers that employ them should lose their ability to do their jobs and face severe fines.

Also when and if the Democrats “path to citizenship” that’s coming down the pike is approved then they won’t technically be illegals anymore will they? Then they will have just jumped the line in front of millions of LEGAL immigrants. How is that fair??? http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/09/wilson-apologizes-for-calling-obama-liar-during-speech.php

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) has apologized for breaking with protocol and calling the President a liar during his speech before Congess this evening.

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill,” Wilson said. “While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

I guess that’s 90 percent of an apology, but politically, it may be too late to undo the impression that the GOP is handling the health care fight uncivilly.

Late update: Wilson apparently called the White House to apologize to Obama directly. Instead he ended up speaking to Rahm Emanuel. Oh, to have been listening in on that f@(&ing conversation.

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

Oh and none of the powers given to the Congress FORBIDS Health Care. Please stop with the Libertarian BULLSHIT. Does the term “Promote the General Welfare” ring a bell” or has living in a state of cognitive dissonance left you completely brain dead?

Promote the General Welfare, and the next part of the Preamble, are the culmination of everything that came before it — the whole point of having tranquility, justice, and defense was to promote the general welfare — to allow every state and every citizen of those states to benefit from what the government could provide. The framers looked forward to the expansion of land holdings, industry, and investment, and they knew that a strong national government would be the beginning of that.

Joe Wilson’s outburst was justified on 3 counts:

    1. Obama and the Democrats have given only lip service to bipartisanship on health-care reform. The White House has excluded Republicans from any discussions on the legislation since the end of April.

    2. Obama lied. Illegal immigrants are indeed covered in the House bill by reason of the fact that they are not excluded. The Republicans added an amendment that definitively excluded immigrants, and the Democrats cut it out.

    3. Obama sullied his speech with his attacks on “the opposition” and accusing them of peddling misinformation. He, by the power of his office, is more to blame than anyone for the misinformation circulating about the 5 different health-reform bills written by committees. His town hall meetings never clarified the provisions of the bills nor defined how a public option would enhance care, efficiency, or competition, much less be paid for.

Moreover, why did Obama want legislation passed before the August recess when he wasn’t prepared to lay out his ideas until today?

And did everyone grasp the fact that health-care legislation will not go into effect until 2013? Just a coincidence that the date falls after the 2012 election?

“2. Obama lied. Illegal immigrants are indeed covered in the House bill by reason of the fact that they are not excluded. The Republicans added an amendment that definitively excluded immigrants, and the Democrats cut it out.”

I read the bill when it was first put out. Please read article 246 of HR 3200. It specifically states: “NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS” It was there from the beginning. President Obama probably didn’t know how much the right wingers would press the lies onto the American people.

    Dear Sir,

You disgraced your office tonight, and your apology was unacceptable. Barack Obama is the elected President of the United States and deserves the respect of not having his integrity called into question while he is speaking to the people of the United States and their representatives. Your apology needs to be to more than just the President you also need to apologize to the people of our country, and if your district still cares to be represented by you that is their decision, however I will contribute to any primary challenger you may have and your opponent in the general election as people of your obvious lack of charachter do not deserve and should not be trusted with the peoples business.

Wilson’s congressional website is conveniently down this evening – what a coincidence. “Joe” is a disgrace to his office, as well as being wrong on the part of the health bill that mentions illegal alien health care insurance. He’s the liar, not the President. Any human being presenting to an emergency room gets evaluated and treated, if necessary. It’s the law, it’s common human decency, and it makes good sense. You don’t want anyone roaming around the community with communicable diseases, whether they are ‘legal’ or ‘illegal’. But isn’t it the point about health care reform, that our society should consider the general welfare and not make health care availability just based on the ability to pay.

You shame the office and the people you serve. No wonder Town Hall meetings and thoughtful, meaningful discussions on Health Care, the Economy and sending more troops to Afghanistan can’t happen when you have chosen to Represent Your District in this way, no wonder people think that who ever shouts the loudest wins! You have proven a disservice to the people you represent and have shown the world why the United States will never evolve. However you don’t deserve to be harassed at home so I hope people will show you the respect of your office and address their dismay through your website and phone lines. I bet your Office Staff will be excited to report for work tomorrow!

    Dear Mr. Wilson:

Being from Oklahoma I am used to rude and disrespectful behavior from many people when it comes to politics, even our own Oklahoma politicians. Tonight you have shamed yourself, your wife, your children, your church, your community, your entire state, and all of America. Someone of your background and experience should be setting an example of behavior for our youth and all Americans. Civility should be at the core of potential achievement in congress.

You and others in leadership positions, especially those who have served our nation honorably in the military must be held to the highest standard. A simple apology is not enough in this case. You sir should resign.

What example have you set this evening? What message have you sent through your actions to those who are now wearing the uniform and to those that will in the future if our nation again comes under attack. Should they respect the Commander-In-Chief or should they take the lead from you sir? What do you say for yourself? Do the honorable thing for your family, your church, your fellow veterans, and your country and resign your position in the U.S. Congress today.

    Sincerely,
    Charlie J.

I abhorred Bush but I listened to him speak because he was the President of the country that I love. The respect shown to him is not solely because of the man he is but of what he represents. Disrespecting him the way Joe Wilson did was a slight to the American people, here an elected member of congress disrespected the office of the President NOT Barack Obama alone. Their strategy is to foster disrespect for Obama by being disrespectful themselves. Being forced to apologize was perhaps not in Wilson’s own game plan, but the rejectionist wing of the Republican party sees this as part of the strategy to derail health care and “break” Obama, as that other bright light of South Carolina politics, Jim DeMint has vowed to do.

    Hi y’all,

I don’t know if any of y’all noticed but right on this page in the meta-tags is “black label strategies larry marchant”. Using the trusty google machine for those keywords reveals that Mr. Marchant is a longtime political operative for the health insurance business, and the Dishonorable Mr. Wilson is his client. Another of Marchant’s clients was Enron. Hey, he’s lookin’ out for the little guy – so he can screw him…

    Here are the highlights:

In 1990, Marchant was recruited by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce to advocate on behalf of the business community. He initiated the first South Carolina Business Agenda, a pro-active effort for the state’s business community. No anti-business legislation passed during Marchant’s tenure at the State Chamber of Commerce.

His legislative insight and aggressive strategy at the State Chamber was recognized by healthcare industry executives and in 1995, Marchant took the position of executive director of the South Carolina Managed Care Alliance- now operating as the SC Alliance of Health Plans, – formed to advance the issues of the health insurance industry. He has successfully led the organization through many heated and contentious debates over the past 13 years and still serves the organization on a contractual basis.

He also founded Marchant Consulting which provided services not only for the SC Alliance of Health Plans, but also for other clients such as Michelin, City of Columbia, Enron, and BlueCross and BlueShield of South Carolina.

Joe Wilson thought that he was going to get a pat on the back and high fives from other Republicans because he figured that the popularity of those mentioned above meant that he had a free pass. I listen to them and all democrats to MAKE UP MY OWN MIND as you should do, too, instead of reactionary answers to a speech. What happened tonight was a rule was broken….not to say anything negative to a president or high official during a speech. Remember, President Obama had his “barbs” as well against republicans and people who are DISCOVERING AND REVEALING FACTS about certain people in this administration, too, tonight that was obvious as I heard this speech more than I cared to learning what was going on that I missed. He was NOT bipartisan. I know he’s been angry as he wants what he wants passed. Not all of us want that nor things done in the middle of the night with a 1000 page paper at midnight with a vote at 9 am not time to read or change it but a “fear mopngering” “scare tactic” sign it, or the USA will be bankrupt! That wasn’t fair.

Nancy Pelosi pushed that Stimulus Plan which wasn’t writen by Obama nor his people. It was the “Apollo” group. They have a “history” that goes way back with criminal activity and communism and marxism. JUST FOLLOW THE RESEARCH, ITS FACTS, AND COME TO YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS.

BUT THE NAME CALLING OF ANYBODY HAS TO GO….EXCEPT THE PARLIMENT IN ENGLAND! THERE’S IS OPEN, AND THE LAWMAKERS SPEAK OUT ALL THE TIME! THEY INTERRUPT, LAUGH AT OTHERS IDEAS, AND DEFEND THEIR POINTS. WHEN THEY ARE ROWDY, THE SPEAKER YELLS “ORDER, ORDER” LET THE GENTLMAN/GENTLELADY SPEAK.” THEY GET ALONG VERY WELL AFTERWARDS.

NO, many republicans are NOT upset with what Joe Wilson said, BUT the democrats…especially Nancy Pelosi with her constant disdainful looks at Joe said one thing…she will try to use her power to make something of it as she runs Obama’s life as well.

YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW SENATOR WILSON. Shame on you for slandering him and the others. THE CHARACTER OF OUR COUNTRY

    ~
Remember how Congress rose again and again to GeorgeBush’s speeches? I did not see the Democrats sitting with their hands on their laps like the impolite and rude Republicans did today.

The character of the Republicans is obvious to all: shouting l.iar, displaying protest signs and not politely clapping. The problem is that so much of the THE CHARACTER OF OUR COUNTRY has been shaped by Republicans with the result that the world recognizes the “u.gly American.”

Eg:Folks wearing T-shirts at a GeorgeBush event arrested and charged, while folks carrying assault rifles with extra ammunition clips plainly in their pockets are allowed to patrol outside President Obama appearances.

Ms. Rose: What you are saying is hogwash! How long have you been watching political speeches or watching C-spans especially when there is a presidential address? They ALL do what you just said. ALL OF THEM DO no matter who’s president! Research your facts.

This is a democrat house, senate, president, and administration. That’s why democrats were so excited.

They all also do the same whomever is in power. It could be people yelling liar, holding up signs, clapping or not. That’s the LONG history of the “well of Congress.” I HAVE HEARD WORSE FROM EACH PARTY!

YOU NEED HISTORY LESSONS. I’d suggest NOT what the public school has made heros and heroines into losers.

You have the story about the t-shirts and ammo so incorrect, but you will believe what you want.

The problem here with this name calling and jumping on a party is NOT what this country is all about. WE SHOULD BE AMERICANS….NOT PARTIES. LOOK FOR AND SEARCH FOR THE TYRUTH OUTSIDE YOUR BOX AND WHAT OTHERS TELL YOU. HAVE A MIND AND RESEARCH ON YOUR OWN BEFORE YOU JUDGE AND SLANDER GOOD PEOPLE.

FORGET ABOUT PARTIES. LOOK AT THEIR HEARTS. STUDY THEIR RECORDS. SEE HOW THEY VOTE AND WHY. ASK WHY THEY DON’T GIVE EXACT ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS AMERICANS ARE ASKING AND NOT GETTING. FOR INSTANCE, WHO WROTE THE STIMULUS PACKAGE? WHO ARE THEY CONNECTED TO? WHAT WAS THE HURRY TO READ & SIGN 1000 PAGES DELIVERTED TO THE SENATE AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH ONLY 9 HOURS TO READ AND SIGN WITH THE “HURRY UP AND DO THIS OR WE WILL BE BANKRUPT.”

WHAT YOU SEE AND HEAR IS NOT ALWAYS THE WHOLE TRUTH! PEOPLE HAVE AGENDAS…BOTH PARTIES!

DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING IN THE NEWSPAPER NOR TV NOR ITS NEWS. WATCH PROGRESSIVE, LIBERAL, CONSERVATIVE, AND OTHER STATIONS. LISTEN TO THEM WITHOUT BIAS. DOES WHAT THEY SAY SOUND RIGHT, OR IS IT FULL OF HARTRED AND ANGER AGAINSTY ANOTHER GROUP?

I will be the first to admit that I have concerns about the president’s health care reform, but to shout out rudely during our leader’s speech, and to call him a liar in front of the nation and world is just downright disrespectful.

I understand that you have apologized for your “lack of civility,” but the damage is done. How can you expect us to believe that the GOP wants to cross party lines to work for the good of the people when such behavior suggests otherwise. It is difficult to trust someone to lead us when he cannot keep his emotions in check, and to act and behave rationally in any given situation.

Whenever you go to the hospital if it’s NOT the ER, You are REQUIRED to show ss# or proof of your Insurance as well as your legal status, i.e. passport, license and/or ss card. What makes you think that Hospitals are going to allow illegal aliens into admissions? They are entitled to ER care if it’s a real emergency but that is a world wide policy. And do you really want to be responsible for someone dying – because they couldnt’ get in the ER just because they are not a citizen? If you do – when your judgement day comes – you won’t be able to tell GOD – “Hey God, I’m an AMERICAN so that should just wipe out all of my evil, selfish deeds and lousy attitude towards non-americans that I did throughout my life right”?? Where are you getting your information from? I’ve worked in Hospital admissions and this is a standing policy for MANY years.
ER’s legally HAVE to treat anyone who walks in with a serious condition. Why do you think the health care reform bill is SUPPOSED to CHANGE that law? It doesn’t and it CANNOT change a MEDICAL HUMANE ACT created from the United Nations?

Wilson couldn’t wait to get out of the congressional chamber to run to the phone and beg Rahm Emmanuel for his forgiveness. Pelosi biyatch-slapped the wus (rightfully so)….and Wilson crumbled just like the cr@cker he is. Now he’s running away from reporter’s questions with his tail between his legs. Face it, the guy your putting up there on that pedestal is a little pansy-boy. Think about this: if you all consider him to be your ‘hero’, what does that make you?

Congressman Wilson was completely out of line. I’ve never seen a president disrespected in such a manner in front of a joint session of congress. Your party keeps reaching for new lows. Just disgusting. And I contributed money to Wilson’s Democratic opponent Rob Miller. I urge others to do the same.

I amazed at the childish antics and bullying tactis of Joe Wilson. He should be ashamed of himself and resign his office at once. Since when does a display of bad manners, rudeness and boorish behavior make one “a hero?” This was not a Republican Town Hall Meeting, these people were hearing an address by the President of the United States. Shameful and disgraceful. What has happened to the People of South Carolina to elect such buffoons to public office?

The republicans showed just what they are ignorant racist ! You can scream, lie, call people names, scare old people, but you will still loose. Your days are numbered and there is nothing that you can do about it. And to the people in SC. You are not REAL AMERICANS, YOU ARE NOT EVEN REAL HUMANS!

  185. September 10, 2009 12:38 pm

    Cong. Wilson,
you have essentially confirmed what so many of us have believed for quite some time; that there is a segement of our population that would rather see this nation burn in the fires of another Civil War, than to accept that an African American is President of the United States. You never shouted “you lie” while President Bush mis-represented intellegence about Iraq, false yellow-cake sales from Niger, or torture or any number of things. You did not show much disdain while Pres. Bush sank this country nearly 1 Trillion dollars in the Red, or while he presided over the worst U.S. economy since the Great Depression. Now all of a sudden, you are “emotional” “Upset?” Your racism shines through. Another reason why people like you are making it difficult for those of us who believe in a peaceful, beloved community. You actually cause us to wish the South had succeeded in seceeding!

I left SC and never looked back and it was because of jerk wad @$$holes like Joe Wilson and Strom Thurmond and their like . You really deserve a govenor like Sanford and a congressman like Wilson, because they represent your values as a people so well

While I can understand forgiving you on a personal level…. I believe you deserve to pay the highest possible PROFESSIONAL PRICE for your COMPLETE DISRESPECT for the Office of the Presidency.

I just gave Rob Miller 50 bucks….AND I LIVE IN MIAMI!!??!

“In fact, over his entire congressional career, health professionals represent Wilson’s top industry contributors, donating a total of $244,196 to his campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics OpenSecrets.org database. He received another $86,150 from pharmaceutical companies, $73,050 from insurance companies and $68,000 from hospitals and nursing homes.

Among Wilson’s top contributors are the American Hospital Association, a lobby group that represents the interests of hospitals and health networks, and the American Medical Association, which represents physicians.”

The apology is obviously not sincere, Obama is a gentleman for accepting the apology. But in actuality the modern Republican party is really a fringe party of dishonest fascists. The party that spent a trillion dollars in Iraq riding the country of imaginary WMDs is now frightened about fiscal discipline. The Republicans spent ten years of healthcare for every American chasing Don Quixote Bush’s mythical WMD dragons in Iraq.

What exactly has the vile Republican party been right about oh the last 15 years:

    1. Free trade would benefit American manufacturing, actually it has decimated American manufacturing with millions of jobs shipped to mexico and china

    2. The Bush tax cuts would not grow the deficit

    3. We will be treated as liberators

    4. Deregulation will spur economic growth and innovation, sure did wonders for the financial industry

    5. Saddam is reconstituting his nuclear program

    6. The free market never fails, except for the Depression level financial panics of 1817,1837,1857,1873,1897,1906,1929, and 2008

    7. The bush tax cuts would lead to longterm growth for all Americans

    8. The occupation will last weeks maybe months, but certainly not years

    9. The fundamentals of the economy are strong

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME ONE MAJOR ISSUE THE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN RIGHT ABOUT, AND WHY EXCATLY IT IS THAT THE MEDIA STILL COMMENTS ON THIS COLLECTION OF FRINGE LUNATICS AS IF THEIR IDEAS ARE SANE AND RATIONAL.

Why hasn’t the conservative media reported that Joe Wilson is a birther?
If you won’t click the link because you don’t believe huffingtonpost, well here’s a less scary and certainly non-partisan source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1o1p_ly7…

    Proof http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/09…
Includes fellow GOP birthers. The birther movement is far more ridiculous than asking questions about what happened on 9/11 which Van Jones got mauled by Glenn Beck over.
Glenn often asks the question, why doesn’t the liberal media ask ‘blah blah blah’ well… Et Tu?
14 hours agoIN ADDITION TO BEING OWNED BY THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES, WILSON IS A BIRTHER.. JESUS CHRIST!

THANK YOU, JOE! I AM SO SICK OF BEING TOLD BY THE “FORKED TONGUE” PRESIDENT THAT CONCERNS THAT PEOPLE WANTED ADDRESSED STRAIGHTFORWARDLY ARE UNWARRENTED. SOME PEOPLE CAN READ AND ACTUALLY ARE READING THE PRESENT BILL WHICH WAS OBVIOUSLY PUT TOGETHER FOR CONGRESS TO QUICKLY APPROVE FOR THE LEMMINGS. PROBLEM FOR CONGRESS, IS WE ARE ON TO THEM AND TICKED OFF. YOUR OUTBURST WAS SOMETHING I HAVE YELLED AT MY T.V. SINCE THE CAMPAIGN DAYS. THE MAN IS VOID OF INTEGRITY…JUST SAY WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR WHEREEVER YOU ARE IS HIS MOTIS OPERENDI.
HE HAS DONE IT CONTINUOUSLY, IT IS NOTHING NEW. ABORTION IS NOT IN THE BILL, NO THE WORD IS NOT, BUT B.O TOLD PLANNED PARENTHOOD THAT WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ISSUES WOULD BE AND HE WOULD ALSO FORCE THE INSURANCE COMPANIES OF WOMEN WHO DO NOT WANT TO CHOOSE THE PUBLIC OPTION, TO ADD IT TO THEIR POLICIES.
2 AMENDMENTS, THAT SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSED ABORTION WERE VOTED DOWN…THAT LEAVES A LOOPHOLE WIDE ENOUGH FOR A TRUCK TO DRIVE THROUGH FOR FEDERAL FUNDING. IT WOULD BE LEFT TO HHSS, KATHLEEN SEBELIS, WHO IS A SUPPORTER OF ABORTION THROUGH THE NINTH MONTH!

HE HAS DONE THE SAME THING ON THE ILLEGAL ALIEN ISSUE.
NO ONE CAN BE TURNED AWAY FROM MEDICAL TREATMENT IN OUR COUNTRY, WE ARE PAYING FOR THE ILLEGALS NOW. WITHOUT AN AMENDMENT ENFORCING PROOF A CITIZENSHIP, THEY WILL STILL BE GETTING A FREE RIDE ON OUR DIME.

DURING THE CAMPAIGN, B.O. SAID HE WAS ALL FOR CLEAN COAL. WHILE ADDRESSING A “GREEN GROUP” HE SAID, “THEY CAN HAVE THEIR COAL, I’M JUST GOING TO TAX THEM INTO BANKRUPTCY.” ANYONE THAT LISENS TO HIS SPEECHES WILL FIND THEM FULL OF #^%$ AND CONTRADICTION.

    HE IS UNTRUSTWORHTY.

It’s usually best to quote correctly..then argue your point. Here, let me help you.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches. The only thing that I’ve said with respect to coal — I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as an ideological matter, as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it, that I think is the right approach. The same with respect to nuclear. Right now, we don’t know how to store nuclear waste wisely and we don’t know how to deal with some of the safety issues that remain. And so it’s wildly expensive to pursue nuclear energy. But I tell you what, if we could figure out how to store it safely, then I think most of us would say that might be a pretty good deal.” San Francisco Chronicle January 2008.

The only thing Joe Wilson did wrong was apologize for his comments! Joe Wilson should have stuck to his guns. He simply spoke what was on his mind, and called Obama’s health care speech for what it was. Lies!

We need many more congressional representatives who are willing to ignore “political correctness” and speak their minds! So many of them have sold their soles to lobbyists, and so few represent “We The People”.

Some say it was disrespectful. I say GOOD! It’s about time someone stands up to the constant bullying! Let me ask you this? What is respectful of preparing a 1700 page bill, issuing at midnight and then demanding a vote on it the next day? Is that respectful? No! That’s bullying! You want my respect, EARN IT!

Shouting down the US President while he was addressing health care reform was a poor manner. Please do not side with him simply because of the party line. I tell my kids what is right and wrong. I do not just tell them that everthing they do is right.
