Duncan Officially Files for Congress

Thursday, March 18, 2010

State Rep. Jeff Duncan of Laurens filed today as a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 3rd Congressional District seat being vacated by Gresham Barrett.

Duncan, whose campaign theme is consistent conservatism, said after paying his filing fee, “If you want to know what I’ll do in Washington, look at what I’ve done in Columbia.”

The Clinton real estate auctioneer and former Clemson University football player, is the only candidate in the June 8 primary field to have voted against a tax increase in Columbia and said he would do the same in Washington while working to reign in out-of-control federal spending and calamitous budget deficits that threaten the solvency of both America’s families and the nation’s future.

“The irresponsible growth in government must be stopped, while at the same time the nation’s traditional values must be protected, energy independence promoted and fiscal sanity restored.”

Duncan, 44, is the only congressional candidate in South Carolina to be endorsed by the Club for Growth and is among only a handful at any level nationwide to win the business-oriented conservative group’s backing.

As a state legislator and committee chairman, Duncan hasn’t hesitated to buck his own party’s leadership when he felt it was betraying conservative values and the best interests of working men and women.  He has been designated a “Taxpayer Hero” for watching wasteful government spending and growth, and a “Guardian of  Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Business.
