Current Treasurer Working Part-Time During “Time of Crisis”

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – Today, incumbent Treasurer, Converse Chellis, released an ad appropriately entitled “Time of Crisis.”

Curtis Loftis made the following observation, “Looking at the Treasurer’s calendar, one would never know we were facing a ‘time of crisis.’  His public schedule clearly shows that he does not spend much time at the office.”

The Loftis campaign released records on Monday, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, showing the incumbent Treasurer only worked 587.5 hours over the past year, the equivalent of 13.42 hours per week.  The State Treasurer’s salary is $92,000 per year.  The State Treasurer’s calendar is posted on line .

Loftis further commented, “The last things we need in a ‘time of crisis’ are spin and politics as usual. Besides employing the usual scare tactics used by career politicians, the ad liberally states ‘South Carolina’ turned to Converse Chellis.  It would be more accurate to say Converse’s former colleagues in the legislature selected him for the vacancy in the Treasurer’s Office and gave him a $92,000 salary.”

Loftis concluded, “Given how much practice Converse has had filming tv ads using public funds, I’m not surprised that he filmed yet another ad behind his desk. I’m glad he’s able to show up to the office when it’s time to film a television commercial and create the illusion that actually works a full week.”

I have known of Curtis for a long time and his willingness to tell the truth so be it, he gave em hell in W.Cola, Office on Aging, and transparency and now willing to take on the establishment is very ballsy… We need more like him, you have our votes. I work in state gov so sorry about the first name only… And yes I am on my early today lunch hour and at home computer 🙂

That ad is nothing more than the status quo canned garbage these insiders feed us year after year. Oh well, I guess they figure if you can’t convince ’em confuse ’em.

If you cannot look in the camera and tell me what you have done and why I should vote for you then go f**k yourself! All incumbents out on June 8th, this year I will vote! Chellis you are less than zero.

I like Curtis’s ad’s, not sure what to think except I don’t like someone driving a luxury car on my dime. Have not heard about him not working full-time until I got the Twitter. Converse seems like a nice guy but we need more than that.

Converse was the wrong man for the job in 2007 and is still the wrong man for the job in 2010. Send the bum back home to Summerville (where he spends 4 days a week anyways). The Good Ole Boy system is coming to an end! Mr. Loftis is the most qualified man running. His success in business, charity, and in public service makes him a proven leader! In business you have to work 40+ hours a week, Curtis will be a great Treasurer!

the treasurer’s schedule looks like some kind of joke. I ran a large business, and then a state agency in Georgia and my schedule was PACKED. I mean all day long I had appointments, scheduled phone calls, scheduled meeting with staff and citizens.

This guy has some real explaining to do.

Barry, Please tell us, how is this unfair to Chellis? Is he working hard for us and just not documenting it? Is he so incredibly efficient that he only needs to work 13 hours a week? Has his office given us inaccurate information? While you are at it, could you tell us how he came up with the remark that a CAFR is an audit? I would not have believed that he actually said that had I not seen a video of it myself. Did he misspeak? Was he lying? Is he that ignorant and does not know what a CAFR is?

I do not believe anything that is attached to C.L. Not known for truth himself. What a joke. Do not be fooled.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Could you look at the website and tell us what the lie is? All the paperwork is there.

Any other campaign lies? Be specfic…if you are truthful u can swing lots of voters. If u are just a hater, u will swing no one

Need to check on the PRT director, he only works about this number of hours a MONTH. Contends that with all the technology, there is no need for him to come to Columbia.

We are all over this… Like uh… Ugly on an Ape.

A businessman can say he does not need to come to Columbia because HE pays for the mistakes made in his absence.

A high elected official does not pay for the mistakes. The taxpayers do. So he needs to drag his lazy butt into work!

I work 50 hours per week for less money. I have no sympathy for him

Is the extent of the Chellis campaign simply to gainsay everything Loftis says? Just say he’s lying and offer no specifics or refutation? Say he’s dishonest but not give an example?

He says we have a AAA credit rating. We don’t. Standard and Poors downgraded us.

He says a CAFR is an audit. It is not, and that is a stupid thing to say. Ask any CPA.

He says he fixed the pension unfunded liability, but the unfunded liability is larger now than before.

Do i need to go on?

I meant Chellis said all those inaccurate things…
