SCGOP Chairman Katon Dawson makes historic trip to New Hampshire, announces First-in-the-South presidential primary to be held January 19, 2008

August 10, 2007

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today announced the First-in-the-South Republican Party Presidential Primary will be held in South Carolina on Saturday, January 19, 2008. In the Executive Council Chambers of the New Hampshire State House in Concord, Dawson hand delivered a letter to New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner, notifying him of the primary date.

“The stakes couldn’t be higher in this election,” said Dawson. “I am proud to be here in New Hampshire to announce our primary date and to solidify a combined 83-year history of our two states being First-In-The-Nation and First-In-The-South – this election cycle and for years to come.”

State committed to have first-in-South Republican contest; other states likely to move their dates

S.C. Republicans will vote for their party’s presidential nominee Jan. 19, state party chairman Katon Dawson said Thursday, ending months of speculation and – possibly – solidifying the state’s place on the primary calendar.

Speaking at the New Hampshire State House in Concord, Dawson said the S.C. party was committed to being the first Southern state to vote next year.

“There’s no Southern state ahead of the 19th, and we’re fairly sure it remains that way,” Dawson said in a conference call after the official announcement from New Hampshire, where he was joined by that state’s secretary of state, Bill Gardner.

While no other Southern state is scheduled to vote before Jan. 19, Dawson’s move is likely to force Iowa and New Hampshire to move, and conceivably, others could follow suit.

South Carolina Pushes Up Primary
The New York Times

Fasten your seatbelts, as Bette Davis once advised, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

South Carolina Republicans have now officially moved their primary up to Jan. 19 from Feb. 2. They made the announcement today in New Hampshire, of all places, a move that will inevitably increase the pressure on Iowa to push up its caucuses to December. Iowa is now faced with a choice here between two dates – one that could make it irrelevant and another that could make it less irrelevant. But no one is sure which is which.

Iowa could be merely irrelevant if it votes in January but does not vote first. If Iowa falls after New Hampshire and South Carolina, candidates could decide to skip it as they gear up for bigger prizes in Nevada, Florida and then 20 very important states, including California, New York and Illinois, on Feb. 5.

The move has gained National and even International attention.

If I look up the definition of “media whore” will I find Katon Dawson’s photograph and biography?

The republican party in SC is being run by Rhinos, our governor is an irrelevant libertarian that cannot accomplish any meaningful governmental task. Our party contribution rates are falling, and if it were not for our “first in the south” position the SC GOP would resemble a hung over drunk unaware of the happenings around him.

We are in for a surprise in SC in 08. Just like the GOP was tossed aside in DC, the SC Gop will suffer heavily losses (though not as bad). Our savings grace will be the gerrymandered districts, and a completely incompetent democrat leadership team headed by the miserable Ms. Fowler.

Katon and Sanford are playing to a national audience. The citizens of SC are interested in local leadership…and the mismatch will bring hard times for my beloved GOP.

One of the most important things you should be talking about is how do you vote in the SC Republican Primary and no where is there any info.

This is my first primary in SC and I don’t know how to vote.

The Dems do much better than the Republicans. Shame on you.

I sure do agree with Nos. 1 and 3. There is nowhere on the SC Republican website to tell us where we will be to vote on Saturday.

Well, here it is for Jack and Mike, and any others, like me, who need info about voting in the SC primary. Go to scvotes.org. I haven’t been there, but it’s my next stop. I’m finished fooling around on this site…Credit, goes to Mr. Gidley for a quick response to my inquiry.

As a Conservative Republican thetop domestic issue I want solved is illegal immigration and truly Rudy Giuliani has the best and most humane way of getting illegal immigration resolved in this country.I’m so honored to have Rudy Guiliani as a candidate in our Republican Party.John McCain is so out of step with the value of Conservative Republicans he still supports giving amnesty to some illegals such as thoose married to a U.S. soldier.John McCain dos’nt represent a true Fiscal Conservative he ooposed the Bush tax cuts, let the American people down by not calling on other members of Congress to get the borders secured to stop illegal invasions, signed many bills in agreement with liberal Democrats, was even considered for a Democratic vice President, does’nt appeal to many Fiscal or Social Republicans.

You would think that those who call themselves Republicans would 1st read the Republican platform….then elect a candidate who stands for that platform. Quit listening to just what they are saying, research what they have done….(voting history). Standing for the constitution.
My vote goes to US Congressman Ron Paul
