Ohio for Change Launches Barns for Obama

Effort will reach out to rural Ohioans statewide, encourage supporters to paint their barns with Obama logo

Columbus, Ohio – Rural Ohioans and supporters of presidential candidate Barack Obama today announced a new barn painting campaign called Barns for Obama, part of Ohio for Change’s ongoing effort to reach out to rural voters.

The campaign released a web video to kick off the effort, with time-lapse photography showing the painting of a barn in northern Trumbull County. The video features Sen. Obama discussing the importance of rural values and the need to support family famers. Over the coming weeks, Barns for Obama will be reaching out to other farmers interested in painting their barns.

“This is an important election for all Americans, but for those involved in agriculture the differences between the candidates is huge. We think it’s important to show our support for the candidate who listens to farmers and understands what it will take to make rural America prosper,” said Joe Logan, whose family barn in Kinsman, Ohio is featured in the video.  ”Senator Obama has a long history of championing the issues that are most important to Ohio’s family farmers.”

Barns for Obama is the latest effort by Ohio for Change to reach out to rural voters, coming on the heels of the announcement of former Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture Doug O’Brien as Rural Vote Director. O’Brien and Obama supporters will fan out to county fairs and community events across the state to share the “We’re in it together” video and discuss Obama’s rural-friendly policies.

“Sen. Obama has a strong track record of standing up for rural values, and we are reaching out to every corner of the state to make sure that message is heard,” O’Brien said. “We’re opening offices in towns across rural Ohio—from Defiance to New Lexington to Marietta– to let Ohioans know which presidential candidate supports America’s rural communities and family farms.”
